    All students in the minor take Code as a Liberal Art which provides an introduction to basic coding skills through a series of projects, and examines how coding and computational thinking intersect with different disciplines and creative practices. Students can then choose among a number of different rotating electives at Lang and at Parsons. Recent courses include:

    • One goal of a liberal arts education is to learn ideas and ways of thinking necessary to function in society. As the importance of computational systems spreads into every domain of modern life, code is no exception.

    • This class is a survey course to live coding methodologies, artists, and techniques and introduces live coding as an interdisciplinary approach to making work. Live coding is a performance practice that involves real-time composition, usually with the use of computer programming.

    • Building on existing anthropological, media studies, and urban studies research about infrastructures and digital technologies, this seminar-workshop will engage with NYC’s forthcoming plan to help us better understand the processes by which technical and social infrastructures are designed and buil...

  • Learn from and work with faculty mentors from a variety of disciplines who are academic scholars and creative practitioners.
