Parsons welcomes visiting students through our exchange program and from unaffiliated institutions. The application process differs in the two cases. Read below for the deadlines, procedures, and other information appropriate to your application.

How to Apply as an Exchange Student
Students currently enrolled at one of our exchange partner institutions are welcome to apply for a semester of study at Parsons. Exchange students continue to pay tuition to their home institution while visiting at Parsons. They are required to obtain approval from their home institution's international or exchange office before submitting their application to Parsons Global Initiatives.
- To study at Parsons in the fall semester (late August to mid-December): March 1
- To study at Parsons in the spring semester (late January to mid-May): October 1
Required Application Documents
- Exchange Student Application
Download and fill out the Exchange Student Application Form. Use your full name as it appears on your passport or birth certificate and be sure to provide your complete address and phone number. Consult your school's study abroad or exchange office if you any questions about the application requirements.
Please provide visual examples of your most current work. Portfolios should contain no more than twelve (12) pieces of work and should be submitted as a single PDF file or as a hyperlink to a website where the work can be viewed.
Provide an official transcript (and an unofficial translation if the official transcript is not in English) of your academic records from your college/university. Your transcript should indicate the title, final grade, grading scale, and total hours of instruction (how many hours a week the course met and for how many weeks) for each course you have taken.
- Statement of Intent
Submit a one-page typewritten statement that describes your reasons for wanting to study at Parsons.
- TOEFL Score
If your native language is not English and instruction at your current college is not 100 percent in English, you must provide your score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The minimum scores we require for the TOEFL are 237 for the computer-based exam or 92 for the Internet-based exam. Our TOEFL institution code is 2638.
Submitting Your Application
All application materials should be submitted digitally to Parsons Global Initiatives via email, at firstname.lastname@example.org, by the deadline stated above. Whenever possible, documents should be submitted in PDF format; if documents become too large to send via email, please contact us for further instructions on submitting materials via Google Drive, Dropbox, or another file sharing system. Applicants and exchange coordinators will be contacted to confirm that applications are complete. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

How to Apply as a Visiting Student (Non-Exchange)
Every semester, Parsons admits a small number of visiting students from unaffiliated colleges and universities. These visiting students pay tuition to Parsons. There is a special application form for visiting students, but otherwise they follow the regular admission procedures.

Further Information for Incoming Students
The New School offers a variety of student housing options, but we do not guarantee university housing for all students. Visiting and exchange students are welcome to apply for housing as soon as they are admitted to Parsons.

International students must obtain a student visa before they enter the United States. If you are an international student, your letter of acceptance will include a link provided by The New School's International Student Services office that will enable you to begin the process of applying for a visa.
All students enrolled at The New School must have health insurance. They are automatically charged the university's Student Health Insurance Plan premium when they register for courses.
Students can waive the university's Student Health Insurance Plan by providing proof of alternative personal coverage.
All students, including those who waive the Student Health Insurance Plan, are required to pay the Student Health Services Fee, which gives access to the on-campus clinic and 24-hour health emergency hotline.
