Galleries and Exhibition Centers
Filled year-round with exhibitions of work by outside artists and designers, faculty, and students, Parsons’ galleries are an important new downtown destination for art and design programming. As a venue to showcase student work, they also allow students to obtain construction, installation, and presentation experience in a high-profile exhibition setting.
About the galleries
Recently renovated as part of the new Sheila C. Johnson Design Center, Parsons has two state-of-the-art galleries measuring more than 4,000 square feet: the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Gallery and the smaller Arnold and Sheila Aronson Galleries, with Fifth Avenue frontage. Parsons’ main street-level exhibition and meeting spaces also include plasma screens, a rotating wallpaper design, and an innovative student critique area which enables the public to observe the design dialogue that is central to a Parsons education.
Location: Sheila C. Johnson Design Center, Parsons School of Design, 66 Fifth Avenue at 13th Street, New York
Gallery Hours: Open daily 12:00–6:00 p.m. and late Thursday evenings until 8:00 p.m.; closed all major holidays and holiday eves.

university art collection
The New School’s Art Collection makes passing through campus buildings a transformative experience. Installations created expressly for our community — such as Glenn Ligon’s work For Comrades and Lovers, which envelops University Center Event Café visitors; José Clemente Orozco’s A Call for Revolution and Universal Brotherhood, a sweeping fresco created in 1931 for The New School; and Kara Walker’s Event Horizon, an immersive artwork filling Arnhold Hall’s stairwell — engage with themes relating to and spaces of The New School. Pioneering works from the collection of nearly 2,000, including pieces by Martin Puryear, Adrian Piper, and photographer and New School teacher Berenice Abbott, are found throughout the campus, offering visitors moments of inspiration and discovery.

Additional exhibition venues
Students and faculty also present their work in other on-campus and satellite venues throughout the city in a number of ways — public events, fashion shows, and exhibitions. Recent venues include the Kitchen, Pulse Contemporary Art fair, Design Within Reach, and ICFF.
