Outgoing Students

Parsons students wishing to study abroad—whether at Parsons Paris, at an exchange institution, or in an outside program—should review the requirements, deadlines, and processes detailed below. Please read carefully, noting that the study abroad process varies depending on where you are applying.

Eligibility

  • Undergraduate students can study abroad during their junior (third) year.
  • Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8.
  • Students on academic or disciplinary probation at the time of application are not eligible.

Deadlines

  • March 1, 2013: internal applications due for fall 2013 study abroad
  • October 4, 2013: internal applications due for spring 2014 study abroad

Application Process

  1. Internal Application: All students planning to study abroad must submit an internal application in person to the Parsons Student Affairs office, located at 66 Fifth Avenue, room 819, by the deadline listed above. The internal application process requires the following documents:
    • Cover sheet
All students must complete the Study Abroad Internal Application Cover Sheet.
    • Academic review and approval
Students need to meet with their academic advisors to review the courses they plan to take during their time abroad. Their application forms must include their advisors' signature.
    • Unofficial transcript
    • Letter of recommendation
A student's recommendation should come from a faculty member in his or her  program of study who is familiar with the student's academic work.
    • Program application materials
Exchange program applicants should include the appropriate materials for the institution to which they are applying (see below). Students applying to Parsons Paris or an outside institution need to submit only the cover sheet and materials listed above.
Parsons' Office of Student Affairs will notify applicants within two weeks of submission about the status of their internal application.
  2. Program Application/Registration:
    • Students planning to attend Parsons Paris submit their applications through Parsons Student Affairs using the Study Abroad Internal Application Cover Sheet. They then register for courses during the regular registration period at Parsons.
    • Students applying to an exchange partner institution submit their exchange program applications through Parsons Student Affairs. Please see each school's website for application information. Note: Deadlines for exchange schools vary; you may need to submit your internal application before Parsons' internal deadline in order to meet another school's deadline.
    • Students applying to an outside institution or program are responsible for meeting the application requirements and deadlines and following the procedures of that program. Note that deadlines and materials for study abroad programs vary by institution. Students applying to outside programs must submit the acceptance letter to Parsons Student Affairs as confirmation of their study abroad.
  3. Transcripts: Students who have completed their programs through an exchange partner institution or outside program must supply Parsons Student Affairs with a transcript of their coursework abroad. Most programs and exchange partner institutions will mail transcripts directly to Parsons. You must supply a transcript in order to receive academic credit at Parsons.
