The proportion of students carrying mobile or personal computing devices on campus is quickly reaching saturation, forcing the classroom to compete with an increasing amount of information accessible through students' personal devices. The classroom remains a critical part of the learning infrastructure, but it must adapt to meet the needs and expectations of its users. This session challenges designers, technologists, and teachers to work together to reinvent the classroom as an interface for collaborative learning.

This workshop will address: How do we assess student learning against the outcomes we've set out in our syllabi? The purpose of this workshop is three-fold. It is to understand: 1) the relationship between learning outcomes and assessment; 2) the variety of ways to assess student learning; 3) how we establish methods and moments of assessment when we develop our course syllabi. All workshops in this series are the same and will be repeated again on April 20th and 21st. A future series will be offered on syllabus-writing later in the spring.

This is the first of two meetings this semester that is open to all Full-time and Part-time faculty members. It will focus on establishing the academic goals and priorities at Parsons, both as a division of The New School and in each of the five schools within Parsons - the School of Art, and Design History and Theory, the School of Art, Media and Technology; the School of Constructed Environments, the School of Design Strategies, and the School of Fashion.
Dean Joel Towers will open the meeting with a summary of an initial draft of the Parsons Academic and Strategic Plan. The school deans will then present the main objectives of their respective schools in the context of Parsons' broader academic vision.
