Designers are increasingly finding themselves in unfamiliar contexts, addressing unexpected challenges, and turning to improvised methods. When applying design methods in areas like delivery of government services, rethinking infrastructure, providing disaster relief, and directing urban change, practitioners confront systems whose complexity, scale, and intractability require new kinds of responses.
This symposium explores emergent design practices at the intersection of sociotechnical systems and change. Invited guests include Fred Dust, partner and leader of Systems at Scale practice at IDEO; Rupal Sanghvi, director of HealthxDesign; and Nigel Snoad, senior advisor in the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
This event is part of the Parsons Festival 2011.
