  • Alan Bruton, Architect, is Assistant Professor of Architecture and Interior Design and Director of the Public Program at the School of Constructed Environments.Alan has exhibited work at the ATM Gallery in New York, the Generali Foundation in Vienna, Gandy Galerie in the Slovak Republic, and recently his contributed commentary to the documentary film The Gruen Effect will be part of the Architecture and Design Film Festival in NYC. In 2008 he designed the exhibition for the U.S. Pavilion at the 11th Venice Architecture Biennale.His practice critically engages relationships between formal, material, economic, and sociocultural issues, in dialog with practitioners of diverse modes of cultural production. His ongoing research surveys materialisms (dialectical, aesthetic, physical, consumeristic, environmentally sustainable, etc) with an aim to understand relationships between the progressive societal goals of the Bauhaus roots of design education and the motivating factors of markets, popular culture, and identity branding currently influencing practice, patronage, and popular perception. Alan has worked closely with practitioners such as William McDonough, Maya Lin, Richard Gluckman, Rem Koolhass, Agnes Denes, Julie Ault and Martin Beck. He was Project Architect with Architecture Research Office for the Times Square Armed Forces Recruiting Station. He has contributed to projects for the phototographer Larry Clark. the fashion designer Gianni Versace, the Catholic Church, Prada, the United States Department of Defense, and the Dalai Lama. Clients have included The International Center of Photography, the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, and The Generali Foundation.
