Jhaelen Hernandez-Eli is the development director at Diller Scofidio + Renfro. He is a core member of the operations group that oversees the strategic management and profitability of the 100-person studio. His responsibilities include the acquisition of new work as well as contract and fee negotiations. Jhaelen is also a partner at HE, a design firm based in New York City and co-founded with his wife, Juliet Hernandez-Eli. The work of the studio includes residential, commercial, and cultural projects. Prior to DS+R and HE, Jhaelen served as Director of Business Development and Design at Empyrean International, where he co-developed and directed a new business service for the prefab housing company. Jhaelen has lectured and participated in design reviews at Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, and Pratt, among others, and currently sits on the Dean's Advisory Council at UC Berkeley's College of Environmental Design. He holds a B.Arts in Architecture from UC Berkeley, and a M.Arch from Harvard University.
