  • Jonathan Marvel is a principal at Rogers Marvel Architects. He is a registered architect in New York and NCARB. Jonathan has taught design studios for fifteen years at Columbia, Harvard and now Parsons and recently taught an Urban Design Studio at Washington University in St. Louis. He is a former Board member of the New York Chapter of the AIA and currently serves on the preservation committee of the Municipal Art Society and on the streetscape committee for the New York City Design Commission. He has been a member of the NYSCA Architecture, Planning and Design panel since 2006.Jonathan, along with Rob Rogers, created Rogers Marvel Architects (RMA) in 1992. They lead a multidisciplinary practice of over 60 architects, landscape architects, urban designers, preservationists, and product designers dedicated to critical design thinking in the public and private realms. RMA's design uncovers essential qualities of existing sites to help inform the final project, with particular attention to light, circulation and materiality.Rogers Marvel Architects, along with West 8 from Rotterdam, recently won the international competition to redesign Governors Island, a mix of natural and created landscapes that will form a 40 acre World Park. In the last five years Rogers Marvel Architects has designed many public spaces in downtown New York City, most notably the New York Public Library Mulberry Street Branch, 55 Water Street Plaza and the New York Stock Exchange Streetscapes and Security. RMA is currently designing six multi-family housing projects throughout all five boroughs.Rogers Marvel Architects has won many national, state, and city design awards. As the winner of the 2006 AIA Medal of Honor, New York Chapter's highest honor, RMA is recognized "for their steadfast commitment to design excellence on all scales ranging from furniture to building to planning and landscape."
