  • Gai Pied Magazine: The Construction of Multiple Identities through Masculinity

    Advising

Adriano Appelius was born in Bordeaux and raised between Paris and New York where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Marketing and Management at Berkeley College. His research investigates ideas of masculinity constructed in the French magazine Gai Pied.

By looking at the issue 0 and issue 1 (1979), Adriano set out to explore whether or not Gai Pied created an alternative representation of masculinity in France. The central goal of the thesis is to identify how Gai Pied portrayed men and promoted gay culture in this specific period of time, and the role it may have played in the discussion of homosexual rights in France.
