Nour Genena - Hollywood, the Global South isn’t yellow!
I am an artist and designer working in graphic design, multimedia, and illustration. I am interested in visual, nonverbal communication strategies. My project Hollywood, the Global South isn’t yellow! explores the way developing nations are depicted in American pop culture film and media. The project highlights the way the yellow color filter used by filmmakers transmits negative connotations that reinforce racial and cultural biases and stereotypes about developing countries. These negative representations of the Global South are contrasted with the actuality of their colorful and vivid cultures and landscapes.
