    Advising

Malique Lee Moore was raised in Brooklyn. His work is focused on an analysis of social consciousness. Keepin’ it Real questions the notions of black popular culture in relation to W.E.B. Du Bois’ research on double consciousness and Frantz Fanon’s research on « collective catharsis », in order to take visitors on an immersive trip into the subconscious of a contemporary black mind. The four-channel video installation mixes music, performance, and cinema to critique the singular narratives existing within mainstream popular culture, thus offering counter-narratives of blackness, queerness, and gender, utilizing eclectic references ranging from Greek mythology, vogue ballroom culture, surrealism, and satirical television.
