    Caroline Marie

Where were you born, and where did you grow up?
I was born in Rouen, a small city two hours from Paris. I moved abroad when I was six years old. I have lived in Michigan, São Paulo, Paris, and Bangkok.

    What languages do you speak?
I speak French, English, and I am currently learning Italian, my favorite language!

How does Paris inspire you in your own work?
Paris is very inspiring, not only because of the tons of exhibitions that are accessible but also thanks to the historical libraries, museums, art associations, conferences, and so on. So much is happening; I feel very fortunate to be living in such a dynamic city!

What is your favorite course so far?
My favorite course is definitely Design Studio 1, in which we imagine, experiment with, and create different design concepts related to the garment. I love this course, as I am constantly discovering my own design language while still having constraints, which is a great learning experience. Introduction to Textiles is also very fun; we experiment with textiles through different techniques such as weaving, knitting and so on.

What I love about all my courses is that they are intrinsically linked to one another. Creative Technical Studio is an essential course for my Design Studio progression, just as Visual Communication allows me to document a particular project or to dig deeper into the project's core.

Do you have a student job?
I work for the Communications and Events departments. It's a great job because we have different projects every week. It allows me to take part in a dynamic and professional sphere, which is beneficial for my long-term experience.

My work involves preparing snacks and logistics for school events, making posters, and conducting faculty interviews for the blog. At Open House, I gave tours of the building and welcomed prospective students and their parents.

As a freshman, I could very easily interact with their mind-spirit at that particular moment. Coming to Open House is, in my opinion, the easiest way to imagine yourself as a Parsons Paris student.

Have you done an internship? If so, what was your experience like?
I have done a few internships: as a showroom intern, as a backstage dresser, and as an assistant for an emerging brand. Internships are an interesting way for me to get a first look at the different work areas in the fashion industry, and they are super exciting. It's a great experience, but I still think doing longer internships is more beneficial for me as an art student who wants to create and make!

What does your typical weekend look like?
On a typical weekend, I will work at school on my projects, go to an exhibition that intrigues me, see my friends, walk around the streets of the Rive Gauche, go shopping at thrift shops, go to the cinema, and work again!

What advice would you give incoming students?
I would recommend reaching out to students that are studying here right now. I reached out to students from different years, and they gave me a lot of helpful feedback on their experience.
