    Profile

Maya Gering is an American artist living and working in Paris. She belongs to the collective Atelier Fairplay in Montreuil, Ile-de-France.

Gering makes animated short films and paintings. In her work she uses personal narrative to shed light on subjects that have been historically silenced. She explores invisibilised socio-political issues created through undercurrents of systemic failing.

Her work has been chronicled in The Cut and Ouest France. Her films have been screened at Interfilm Festival (Berlin), Hors Piste Festival - Centre Pompidou (Paris), and Les Archives Nationale de Pierrefitte (Ile-de-France). Her work has been shown in group shows at the Prix International de Peinture “Novembre à Vitry” (Ile-de-France), Musée d’Art et d’Histoire de Saint Denis (Ile-de-France), Galerie Ygrec (Paris), and Atelier Fairplay (Montreuil).

Gering received her bachelor's degree at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York. She received her 2nd bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Art de Paris-Cergy (ENSAPC). She graduated with les felicitations du jury (magna cum laude) in 2018.
