    Profile

Janette Laakso has been accumulating her knowledge for fashion, pattern making, structure developing, sewing techniques, fashion history and handcrafts during the last ten years.

She initially started her studies to become a seamstress and a pattern maker, and later graduated from the prestigious BA Fashion Design program in Aalto University, Finland.

Straight after graduation she relocated to Paris to intern at Olivier heyskens demi-couture atelier. After the internship period, she was hired as an Assistant Product Developer and a Pattern Maker. At Theyskens’ atelier she learned and mastered new ways of constructing a garment with couture methods and finishings, executing pieces from the initial patterns to the final hand sewn looks.

While living in Paris, Janette worked as a Costume Designer for a Finnish theater, and designed a transformable costume series to a play inspired by the court of Versailles. Laakso was named the Finnish costume designer of the year 2022 by the Finnish Theatre Association.

Janette has a great passion for constant learning and pushing her technical knowledge further, as well as a love for vintage garments and fashion history.
