• New Student Orientation

    Monday, August 21, through Sunday, August 27, 2017

    New Student Orientation for new on-campus undergraduate and graduate students beginning their studies in the fall 2017 semester takes place Monday, August 21, through Sunday, August 27, 2017. Orientation is intended to help students become members of our university community. Students receive important information about academic policies and the course registration process for their school. In addition, workshops introduce students to resources and services available at The New School. New Student Orientation is about making connections with the university, other students, and New York City. All new students are expected to attend New Student Orientation.

    Residence Hall Check-In

    Saturday, August 19, and Sunday, August 20, 2017

    All new on-campus undergraduate and graduate students will move into the residence halls on Saturday, August 19, and Sunday, August 20, according to the following check-in schedule:

    • New students whose last names begin with A-L should check in at their residence halls on Saturday, August 19.
    • New students whose last names begin with M-Z should check in at their residence halls on Sunday, August 20.

    International Students

    All new international undergraduate students will receive a special invitation, sent to their New School email address, to attend the International Student Experience Program on Saturday, August 19, as well as special instructions for checking in to the residence halls. In addition, all new international students should check this page for additional orientation and check-in information.  

    New School Firsts

    At The New School, first-generation college students are proudly called “New School Firsts.” These are students who have identified themselves as coming from families in which neither parent has earned a four-year undergraduate degree. These students will receive a special invitation, sent to their New School email addresses, to attend a pre-orientation program on Sunday, August 20, as well as special instructions for checking in to the residence halls.

    Parent and Family Orientation Program

    Saturday, August 19, through Monday, August 21, 2017

    Informal parent and family orientation events take place on the evenings of Saturday, August 19, and Sunday, August 20. Please note: Events occurring on Saturday will be repeated for students and parents checking in on Sunday. Students and parents who are scheduled to arrive on Sunday will not miss any important information. Parents and families are also invited to attend the full-day Parent and Family Orientation Program on Monday, August 21. Attendees will learn from numerous administrators, faculty members, and current students about ways they can help support their students’ academic and personal success.
