• Institutional Scholarships
  • Merit-Based Funding

Merit-based scholarships are awarded during the admission process and are based on the strength of an application and, if applicable, an audition or portfolio. No additional application components are required for merit-based scholarships. Recipients of these scholarships are usually notified in their letters of acceptance; decisions are final at the time of admission.

Financial Aid Appeal for Additional Funding

The university does offer limited grant funding for current students who have experienced changes in their financial circumstances during their enrollment. Qualifying students have experienced an extenuating or unexpected change in financial circumstances, are taking advantage of all financing options available to them (loan and work study options), and are making plans to finance the remainder of their New School degree.

Students who wish to request an exception to the registration or tuition refund policy can go through the university's appeals process.

If you have any questions about your financial aid offer, please speak to a financial aid counselor. All institutional awards are subject to Award Terms and Conditions.

    Financial Aid Guarantee

Our Financial Aid Guarantee ensures that all students who receive a institutional scholarship or grant will not lose any of their aid even if financial circumstances change.

This does not apply to federal or state financial aid, as federal and state programs have their own conditions that must be satisfied.

    Disaster Relief Policy

The university has set aside limited funding for the 2024–2025 academic year in a pilot program designed to assist students who are directly affected by war or natural disasters. Students must apply for admission and complete the FAFSA if eligible before appealing for funds. Upon admission, a student may be considered for disaster relief funding up to the cost of tuition through the appeals process. Please contact the Financial Aid or Admissions Office for information on how to apply. Like all funding awarded at the time of admission, these funds are renewable each year at the same amount initially awarded, in accordance with the terms of our Financial Aid Guarantee.
