    • Second-Year Mainstage

      In the spring semester of their second year, MFA actors are featured in a production in the School of Drama Theater. This production is their first opportunity to work with professional directors, designers, and stage managers, with the full support of the College of Performing Arts Production team.

      Notable past productions include Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare and Middletown by Will Eno.

      The spring 2019 production will be Balm in Gilead by Lanford Wilson, directed by Raelle Myrick Hodges.

      New Visions Directing Festival

      In the fall semester, the work of our graduating MFA directors is showcased in The New Visions Festival, which features director-driven productions of full-length classic and contemporary works performed in a repertory setting. These productions highlight the talents of our graduating directors and provide an introduction to each director’s work and aesthetic.

      The fall 2018 festival will feature MFA directors Sarah Young, Rebecca Etzine, and Joey Rizzolo.

      New Voices Playwriting Festival

      In the spring semester, the work of our graduating MFA playwrights is showcased in a repertory of new plays, directed by the graduating directors and featuring the graduating actors. All inquiries regarding scripts should be directed to Rachel Christiansen.

      The spring 2019 festival will feature MFA playwrights Conlan Carter, Collin McConnell, Miles Orduna, and Mallory Weiss.

      MFA Actor Industry Showcase

      Each spring, our MFA Acting faculty present the graduating actors to leading casting directors and agents in a showcase of their range and material. Please click here to see headshots and résumés of the graduating actors.

      The spring 2019 MFA Actor Industry Showcase will be held on Monday, May 6, 2019, at The Clurman Theatre.

      Cherry Lane MFA Reading Series

      For the second year, Cherry Lane Theatre will present public industry readings for Drama’s MFA playwrights: Conlan Carter, Collin McConnell, Miles Orduna, and Mallory Weiss. These four plays were developed with support from The Lark Play Development Center, under the guidance of industry mentors Samuel Hunter, Rajiv Joseph, Sarah Ruhl, and Charise Castro Smith.
