    The School of Drama’s MFA programs are not accepting applications for the 2020–2021 academic year. The school is in the process of developing a new MFA aimed at transforming advanced performing arts training for dramatic artists.   • 1   Review Financial Aid & Merit Scholarship Information

  • All admitted students are considered for merit scholarship awards determined by the strength of their applications. International students are eligible only for merit scholarships. If you are a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to be considered for need-based financial aid. The FAFSA is available each year on October 1. The New School’s federal school code is 002780. You don’t need to wait for an admission decision to apply for federal aid. Our Financial Aid staff are available to guide you through the process of applying for financial aid.

  • 3   Before You Begin

  • To apply to the School of Drama, you must complete the Common App online application and submit your Artist Portfolio through Acceptd.

    • Complete your Common Application to the BFA in Dramatic Arts.
    • Log into Acceptd.
    • Complete and submit your Artist Portfolio.

    All required fields and uploads must be completed before submitting your application. Your application is not complete until you have submitted both your online application and Artist Portfolio. Application and portfolio requirements are outlined in the section below.

    Additional Documents

    Any additional supporting documents that need to be sent by mail must include an Application Materials Cover Sheet. These must be received before your application can be reviewed.

    Application Fees

    Application fees are $50 for all domestic applicants and $75 for first-year international applicants. Application fees are paid through the Common App and are non-refundable. There is also a $30 portfolio submission fee paid through Acceptd.

  • After you have completed all the requirements listed above, made arrangements for your transcripts to be sent to The New School, and contacted your recommenders, your application is ready to submit. If you need any help or have any questions, please feel free to contact the Office of Admission.

  • 7 Prepare for Auditions

  • Once you have submitted your complete School of Drama Application (The CommonApp online application and an Acceptd submission), you will be contacted to schedule an audition or interview via Acceptd.

    Actors will be asked to prepare a one-minute contemporary monologue. All applicants should be prepared to talk about their artistic and academic goals. Playwrights, Directors, Creative Technologists, and Dramaturgs are encouraged to interview via Skype.

  • 8 Check Your Application Status

  • Applications become complete and ready for review once all required items have been received by the Office of Admission. You can check your application status in the Admission Hub.

    Allow at least ten business days from the date you submitted your application for items to be matched and shown as received on the Hub. Applicants are responsible for following up with schools and recommenders to confirm that transcripts and recommendations have been sent.

    The Office of Admission will periodically notify applicants by email if their file is missing any documents and again when their file is complete for review. These notifications are sent to the email address provided in the online application. If you need to change your email address, mailing address, or other contact information, email the Office of Admission.
