Chaelon Costello (they/she) is an actor, writer, and educator based in Brooklyn. A three-time nominee for the Distinguished University Teaching Award and two-time nominee for Achievements in Social Justice Teaching, Chaelon serves as a Part-Time Assistant Professor for CoPA. Chaelon teaches in Drama's MFA and BFA programs and serves as the First Year Lead and Advisory Faculty for Acting for the BFA in Dramatic Arts. The 2019 Innovations in Education Fund awarded Chaelon a team grant winner on project: Intimacy In Performance with colleague, Glynis Rigsby. Chaelon has been tapped for service in Admissions and curriculum development across capacities at Drama and CoPA.
For Drama, Chaelon co-directed devised work: Ursa Minor with Glynis Rigsby, participated as text coach for Feigned Courtesans, and served as acting coach for Red Bike on the Mainstage. As a movement director, Chaelon has choreographed Medea (Drama), A Soldier's Tale (Mannes), and The Motherf**ker with the Hat at City College. At Fordham University, Chaelon joined as a Guest Artist, working with the MFA playwrights in Devised Theatre and Collaboration. They have taught in Residence at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and worked in Residence at Bethel Woods Center for the Performing Arts.
As an actor, Chaelon has joined invited workshops at BAM, The Old Vic, and with Frantic Assembly. Credits include: The American Dream by Dipika Guha (The Old Vic), The Review or How to Eat Your Opposition by Donnetta Lavinia Grays (WP Theatre), Lulu (Dixon Place), Hamlet (Kraine Theatre), The Illusion (The Cell), The Art of Gaman (workshop) by Dipika Guha (Fault Line Theatre Co.), R&J: The Webseries (Ready Set Go Theatre Co.), Dichos, a webseries directed by Mar Angélica Molina, and Headlights, a short film, directed by Frank Winters.
