    If You Feel Sick

Students who feel ill, whether or not they have COVID-19 symptoms, should stay home. Students must contact Student Health Services at covidtesting@newschool.edu and/or schedule an immediate telehealth appointment at shsportal.newschool.edu. Students with severe symptoms including fever and/or shortness of breath should call 911 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.

    Common COVID-19 symptoms include:

    • fever or chills
    • cough
    • shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • muscle or body aches
    • headache
    • new loss of taste or smell
    • sore throat
    • congestion or runny nose
    • nausea or vomiting or diarrhea

    If You Need Emotional Support

Counseling Services offers short-term flexible support and counseling as well as support groups. Students are encouraged to schedule an appointment with a counselor and/or participate in one of their virtual support groups

    Emergency Contacts

    • New York City Police and EMS: Call 911

If You Recently Recovered from COVID-19

There may be a small number of students who were diagnosed with, and recovered from, COVID-19 within weeks of coming to campus. This affects the protocol for entry testing. Students who have had a positive test for COVID-19 within 90 days (but have recovered for more than 10 days and have no symptoms) will not be re-tested.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that COVID-19 molecular material can persist for up to 90 days, even past the point that patients are infectious. However, if those students are having any symptoms of COVID-19, they may need to be treated as experiencing a COVID-19 recurrence. Students who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 within 90 days prior to coming to campus should inform Student Health Services and submit documentation of their positive COVID-19 test by emailing covidtesting@newschool.edu. Students should also schedule a telehealth appointment at shsportal.newschool.edu for an evaluation.
