The New School will be closed today for a day of mourning and reflection. Friday, June 5, 2020.

  • Updated: May 20, 2020

The New School continues to monitor and respond to the public health situation regarding the novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. Our decision-making and planning is guided by our sense of responsibility, first and foremost, to protect the health and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff. It is also our high priority to ensure that teaching, learning, and research are progressing and the academic requirements of classes are being met.

The university has assembled a team to plan for and manage disruptions related to the spread of COVID-19 and is following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), French Ministry of Health, and other relevant local health authorities. We encourage everyone to take reasonable, commonsense measures to keep yourself healthy, such as washing hands and practicing good flu-season hygiene. You can also find the most up-to-date COVID-19 information from the CDC and World Health Organization (WHO).

IMPORTANT UPDATES  for our New York City Campus

    Impact of COVID-19

COVID-19 has presented an enormous public health challenge that has required all of us to respond rapidly, practically, and in ways that, to the extent possible, minimize disruption to our daily campus lives. Learn more here

As of Sunday, March 22, most campus buildings will be closed until further notice. Building hours are posted on the Buildings website and will be updated as needed. Students, faculty and staff should make arrangements to collect course materials, musical instruments, personal belongings and anything else necessary for remote work.

All classes for the remainder of the semester will be conducted online. In an abundance of caution, the University has suspended all on-campus classes and activities in June.

    Residence Halls

The residence halls are closed until further notice as of Monday, March 23. All students except those with special exceptions have departed from the halls. Students who remain on campus continue to receive support.

Staff should continue to work remotely if possible. Those staff who have been designated as essential, or whose responsibilities require them to support essential functions, should follow the directions of their supervisors and managers with regard to on-campus work. Visit the Human Resources page for more information.

    Programs and Events

Public programming and special events are cancelled through the end of May.
