• Middle States Review

  • The New School is an accredited institution and a member of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE or the commission), msche.org. The New School’s accreditation status is Accreditation Reaffirmed. The commission’s most recent action on the institution’s accreditation status, on November 20, 2025, was to reaffirm accreditation. MSCHE is authorized by the U.S. Secretary of Education to conduct accreditation and pre-accreditation (candidate status) activities for institutions of higher education, including distance, correspondence education, and direct assessment programs offered at those institutions. The commission’s geographical area of accrediting activities is the entire United States.

On November 20, 2025, MSCHE reaffirmed The New School's accreditation because the university is now in compliance with Standard V (Educational Effectiveness Assessment) and Standard VI (Planning, Resources, and Institutional Improvement). A subsequent monitoring report will be due on March 1, 2026 that demonstrates the sustainability of the implemented corrective measures and further evidence of 1) organized and systematic assessments, conducted by faculty and/or appropriate professionals, evaluating the extent of student achievement of institutional and degree/program goals (Standard V); 2) documentation of an implemented, systematic, and sustained institutional assessment process linking the assessment and evaluation process to budgeting, planning, and resource allocation (Standard VI); and 3) fiscal and human resources as well as the physical and technical infrastructure adequate to support its operations wherever and however programs are delivered (Standard VI). The next evaluation visit is scheduled for 2031–2032.
