Graduate Admission Deadlines

The application deadlines for graduate programs vary. Before you begin your application, make sure to note these important deadlines.

If you're unable to meet our priority deadlines due to circumstances beyond your control, please email us at admission@newschool.edu. If paying the application fee will pose an economic hardship, please request a fee waiver. 

Check Your Application Status

Applications become complete and ready for review once all required items have been received by the Office of Admission. You can check your application status in the Admission Hub.

Allow at least 14 days from the date you submitted your application for items to be matched and shown as received. Applicants are responsible for following up with schools and recommenders to confirm that transcripts and recommendations have been sent.

The Office of Admission will periodically notify applicants by email if their file is missing any documents and again when their file is complete for review. These notifications are sent to the email address provided in the online application.

Mannes School of Music

• Spring Admission: October 15
• Fall Admission: December 1

Master's and certificate applications received after the priority deadlines are evaluated case by case on a rolling basis. 

The New School for Social Research

• Spring Admission (MA, MS, and graduate certificate applicants): October 15 (priority deadline); January 4 (final deadline—the application will close at 11:59 p.m. ET)
• Fall Admission (Clinical Psychology PhD applicants): December 15. The New School for Social Research is pausing admissions to all PhD programs except for Clinical Psychology while we undertake a comprehensive review of the overall doctoral program. Because of this review, we will not be admitting a new cohort of PhD students to any other program for the 2027–2028 academic year.
• Fall Admission (MA, MFA, MS, and graduate certificate applicants): January 7 (priority deadline); May 5 (second deadline); August 1 (final deadline—the application will close at 11:59 p.m. ET). The MFA in Creative Writing is no longer accepting fall 2026 applications for the concentration in Fiction. We continue to accept applications for the concentrations in Arts Writing, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Writing for Children and Young Adults through August 1.

Master's and certificate applications received after the priority deadlines are evaluated case by case on a rolling basis. Spring term admission is not available for the MFA in Creative Writing.

Parsons Paris

• Fall Admission: January 15

Applications received after January 15 are reviewed on a rolling basis, depending on space availability in the programs.

Spring term admission is not available.

Parsons School of Design

• Summer and Fall Admission: January 5
• Spring Admission (MS Environmental Policy and Sustainability, MA Media Studies MA, MS Media Management, and Media Management Graduate Certificate applicants): November 1 (priority deadline); January 4 (final deadline—the application will close at 11:59 p.m. ET)

Applications received after priority deadlines are reviewed on a rolling basis depending on space availability in the programs. 

Summer admission is available only for the MFA Photography and Global Executive MS in Strategic Design and Management programs.  

School of Drama

• Fall Admission: December 1

Applications received after the deadlines are evaluated case by case on a rolling basis.

School of Jazz and Contemporary Music (MM Performer-Composer)

• Spring Admission: November 1
• Fall Admission: January 15
