  • I AM AN ARISTOCRATIC ANIMAL

    I AM AN ARISTOCRATIC ANIMAL
This collection started with an examination, from a critical but honest perspective, of humans’ dual faces. Having a dual face is not only about individuals; instead, it is about entire societies. We all have dual faces — at home, at work, in our neighborhoods, and on social media — but we ignore the unpleasant truth and often pretend we don’t have more than one “face.” Often we are hypocrites covered in idealistic and romantic superficial surfaces. People are merely one type of animal in nature, but we see ourselves as an aristocratic kind of animal. We crave being superior to others and this urge creates our dual or multiple faces, which serve as masks. The realization of the image of aristocratic animals has been influenced by the dramatic, romantic, and ornamental elements and esthetics of the Rococo era. In order to create intricate but modern handcrafted textiles, I employed multiple making techniques, including batik, felting, beading, weaving, embroidery, and hand machine knitting.
