    anxious, compulsive & artistically-driven
I had what might be called a “perfect childhood.” I grew up in Nicaragua — a country with an extremely polarized economy and classist society — in a well-off catholic family of good reputation. I went to a bilingual private school, had a great social life with tons of friends, a big family, food to eat, a roof over my head, water to drink, and so on. I was privileged. I grew up without asking many questions. This project is a catalyst for me to revisit my childhood and ask the questions that I never got to before, using my mental health as a space to reflect on what happened, how it changed me, and how it is a part of me today. This project is a two-part installation; the book tells the story, the video gives the story a space, a sound, a time. In this piece, I dive deep into a conversation with myself, discussing my anxiety, compulsive eating disorder, and how natural it is for me to process things through art-making.
