    Advising
These pages are excerpted from my graphic novel, titled Slipped Away. It's the true story of my early-life transition from post-Soviet Ukraine to New York City. In those years my brilliant father had a business transporting cars overseas. When I was 14, a flashy red Mercedes they were transporting was stolen near the border with Poland. His business parter (and best friend) started blackmailing him and threatening to abduct me. With no choice, and no idea what to expect, we got on the plane and left Ukraine for the U.S.
