Shifting Roots: Echoes of Memory in Migration

Shifting Roots: Echoes of Memory in Migration is my research-through-practice thesis project grounded in participatory photography and film. The work, which draws on an autoethnographic approach and close engagement with the Albanian immigrant community in the United States, explores the ways migration, memory, and identity shape the spaces we inhabit.

Working with family archives, home videos, and photo collages created in participatory fashion, the project traces how memory is preserved, fractured, and reimagined across generations. It highlights the emotional and spatial landscapes of displacement, illuminating how immigrant communities navigate the tensions of longing, loss, and adaptation. In doing so, Shifting Roots contributes to broader conversations on cultural continuity and generational trauma.
