  • Come Closer

    Advising

“Come Closer” is a fashion collection made from repurposed garments that were sourced from the Salvation Army, and are made either in Italy or the United States from natural materials such as cotton, linen and wool. The collection highlights and celebrates parts of garments that are often overlooked, which are mixed together and transformed through traditional techniques such as embroidery, natural dyeing, batik dyeing and machine knitting. The aim is to expose their materiality and the labor placed in their creation. The use of these techniques invites the viewer to take a closer look at these garments, perhaps even to question how they were made or who made them. The lining, for instance, which is normally tucked away and meant to hide raw and imperfect edges, has been shredded and hand knitted. Ultimately, "Come Closer" proposes a new, more intimate way of engaging with garments as a meditation on those qualities that also make us human.
