Stefanos Tsivopoulos is a visual artist, filmmaker, writer, and educator who lives and works in New York and Amsterdam.
Known for his research-based work on archives and experimental film, Tsivopoulos' practice is driven by a sense of urgency to examine the anthropological dimension of current global crises: ecological, economic, and political. His oeuvre is marked by an investigation of how personal and collective histories impact social discourse.
Tsivopoulos' films and video installations have been showcased in several biennials including the 55th Venice Biennale Greek Pavilion; Documenta 14, Kassel; 8th International Manifesta Biennial, Murcia; 2nd CAFAM Biennial, Beijing; 6th Industrial Biennale, Istria; 6th Thessaloniki Biennial; 6th Fotobiennale, Mannheim; EVA Limerick Biennial (2014, 2009); 2nd Xinjiang Biennale; 5th Bucharest Biennial; the 4th Riga Quadrennial; and the 1st Athens Biennial.

Tsivopoulos studied painting and set design at the Fine Arts Academy of Athens (BFA 1996) before moving to the Netherlands and continuing his studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Media and Video-Art (BFA 2000-02.) He completed his MFA at the Sandberg Institute Department of New Media (MFA 2002-04). Tsivopoulos went on to participate in various artists-residencies, including Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, Amsterdam (2005-06), Platform Garanti, Istanbul (2009); IASPIS, Stockholm, (2010); ISCP, New York (2011).
Tsivopoulos is a core faculty member at the Lens Based Art (MFA) program of the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and adjunct faculty at the BFA and MFA programs of The New School—Parsons, New York.
He is the founder and co-director of Artists for Artists, an online pedagogical non-profit organization that works with leading international artists and early-career artists from the Global South.
