Associate Professor of Fashion
Neil Gilks is a British trained creative schooled at Central St.Martins College of Art and Design (CSM) – he gained his undergraduate in Womenswear design in 1997, then went on to achieve two Masters of the Arts at CSM in Womenswear design in 2001 and Menswear design in 2006. As a fashion designer he worked through the ranks to Design Director level, for fashion brands in London and NYC. As an educator he taught on the BA Fashion Degree at CSM for nine years, as a visiting lecturer in many London based schools and further afield through Europe. Teaching in the USA he held the position of Professor of Fashion at SCAD, design tutor at Parsons MFA Fashion Design and Society, and in his last posting of Associate Professor and Department Head for Apparel at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Career highlights also include his work as Director of Design Advancement at Diane von Furstenberg (DVF) and Director of Educational Initiatives at the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). Co-founder of Daniel Reynolds Studio, a fashion textiles design service that works with many of the worlds leading design brands. His current professional practice within illustration examines masculinity and the male form and has been featured in numerous editorials and exhibitions internationally. In addition his work can be seen in an illustrated childrens book, album covers and feature as graphics in fashion collections.
