Michelle Jackson-Beckett's academic research focuses on nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Central European and American design and architecture, especially the history of glass at the intersection of industrial and artistic contexts. Her doctoral work focuses on conceptions of affordability in interior design and housing, as well as the history of design pedagogy in Austria and the United States.
On the part-time faculty for the MFA Industrial Design program, she has taught courses in Parsons ADHT on the history of American and European industrial design and visual culture, spanning 1750 to the present, including seminars on Weimar visual culture, American modern architecture and design, Postmodern architecture and design, global issues in contemporary design, and revivalism in western architecture and design of the twentieth century. She is also a docent at the Neue Galerie New York, Museum for German and Austrian Art, and a co-chair of the young patrons program for the museum.
Her work has been published by the Courtauld Institute of Art, London, and she has given lectures at conferences for the Design History Society, the College Art Association, the International Council of Museums, the Victorian Society of America, and the Mid-Atlantic Popular and American Culture Association, among others.
