    Glenn Tunstull

Glenn Tunstull fills his creative life with the development of images that reflect the world around him. As a Hudson Valley resident for more than a decade his artistic world includes the pastoral settings of the Berkshires and Catskills—reflecting their zest of color and quietude—as well as the energetic and breathtaking colors of Bahia, Brazil where he spends part of the winter and the shimmery fluidity of water and light in Martha’s Vineyard where he summers.  In all of these surroundings he captures the essences of the settings through a deft handling of watercolors and a vibrant expression of the light of day through oil paints.    Tunstull’s career as a fine artist follows a highly successful career as a fashion Illustrator, where his work has graced the pages of Vogue Harper’s Bazaar, WWD, Playbill, The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, among others.  Throughout his illustration career Tunstull was sought after by such high-profile designers as Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, and Kenzo, and noted retailers, Hermes, Jones NY, Bloomingdale’s, Henri Bendel and Neiman Marcus, among them.  Additionally, his illustration signature graced the pages of Kathryn Klinger’s First Book of Beauty by Kathryn Klinger, The Beauty Principal by Victoria Principal, and Kai, A Big Decision by Sharon Shavers-Gayle. A compilation of Tunstull’s fashion images are in his book TUNSTULL From Fashion to Fine Art, by Glenn Tunstull and Jelani Bandele.    It was Tunstull’s thirst for challenges as an artist that initially inspired his move to landscapes. “I have a pre-occupation with water and light which drives me to paint a particular setting” he states. His settings thus far have been as striking as they have been varied. Tunstull’s images extend from his home base to Australia, Bali, England, France, Italy and Japan. Given this wealth of environments it’s easy to see how Tunstull has re-invented himself as one of this generation’s premiere artists, a fact supported by the overwhelming groundswell of support that greets his shows. His work can be found in private collections globally and on exhibit in galleries on Martha’s Vineyard, in Louisville, KY, Stamford, CT and Salvador de Bahia, Brazil.   Educated in Fashion Illustration at Parsons School of Design, he has been an adjunct-professor there, teaching drawing and painting to fashion design students for over two decades, while concurrently teaching drawing at Marist College for the past ten years. Tunstull has also taught at the Fashion Institute of Technology and Pratt Institute.
