Currently Independent curator, American material culture. President, New York Silver Society, Inc. Formerly Senior Curator, Decorative Arts, Museum of the City of New York, 1986-2008. Curator/contributor to exhibitions including An Elegant Assortment: The Furniture of Duncan Phyfe and His Contemporaries, 1800-1840; The Artistic New York of Louis Comfort Tiffany; Is It Phyfe?; A Treasury of New York Silver; Furniture of Distinction; Tolerance and Identity: Jews in Early New York, 1654-1825; Catholics in New York, 1808-1946. Editor/author, Elegant Plate (2 vols., 2000); lead author, The Jewelry and Metalwork of Marie Zimmermann (2011); author, A Handsome Cupboard of Plate: Early American Silver in the Cahn Collection (2012), which accompanies a touring exhibition organized by the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.
