Documents & Signatures

When traveling internationally or within the United States, all international students and exchange visitors must carry the proper travel documents, described below. If traveling internationally, you should make sure you have a valid travel signature on your I-20 or DS-2019 before departing from the United States.

Documents Needed for Travel to the United States

International students, exchange visitors, and dependents in F or J status need to carry the documents listed below in order to enter the United States in lawful F or J status. If visitors are missing any travel documentation, they may face problems when entering the United States. Please note that admittance to the United States is granted solely at the discretion of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), even for visitors with complete travel documentation.
