What is Open Enrollment?
Open Enrollment, sometimes referred to as annual enrollment, is the window of opportunity occurring once a year when employees of The New School may make changes to their elected fringe benefit options such as health insurance, dental insurance, flexible
spending, etc.
When is the 2021 Open Enrollment period?
Open Enrollment begins on October 19 and lasts through November 13, 2020. Changes become effective January 1, 2021.
How do I change my benefits?
All changes to your elections will have to be made through the university's online self-service system, MyDay. You may review all current and future benefit elections through your MyDay portal.
What is my username and password for MyDay?
You will use the same username and password to sign into MyDay that you use to sign into your the New School email address. Please note that two step authentication through Duo may be required for certain individuals. For any assistance with MyDay contact mydayhelp@newschool.edu.
Can I enroll via MyDay on my personal computer or mobile device?
Yes. You can enroll in or change your benefits from any computer with internet access during the Open Enrollment period.
Can I change my benefits at any time?
Generally you may only change your elections for the following plans once a year, during the university's annual Open Enrollment period. However, you may change your elections during the calendar year if you experience a change in Status (also known as a qualifying life event) as defined by the Internal Revenue Code.
These benefits include:
- Health Plans
- Dental Plan
- Flexible Spending Accounts (Health Care or Dependent Care)
- Supplemental Life Insurance
Please Note: Not all benefits may apply to all employees.
Do I have access to other benefits in addition to those I can only change during Open Enrollment?
Yes. You can newly enroll, discontinue or make changes to the following benefits any time throughout the year:
- Retirement Plans (Tax Deferred Annuity)
- Qualified Transportation (Pre/Post Tax Transit and Parking)
What is a change of status/qualifying life event?
You can change your benefits within 31 days of a qualifying life event, which include:
- Marriage
- Divorce
- Change in your spouse or qualified domestic partner's employment status
- New child
- Death in your family
If it's not clear whether or not your life event qualifies, contact benefitshelp@newschool.edu. For instructions on submitting a qualifying life event please visit our webpage.
What if I don't want to make any changes to my Benefits?
If you wish to participate in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) you must take action during the annual Open Enrollment Period. Your 2020 elections for FSA will not carry over into 2021.
Also, if you have a Health Savings
Account (HSA) in combination with your High Deductible Health Plan, you will
need to open a new account with Payflex, as we will no longer have Optum back.
More information and the application will be sent to members in this particular
plan who need to take action.
All other benefits will continue unless you make changes during Open Enrollment. However, we highly recommend that you review your benefits to make sure that you have selected the best options for you and/or your family.
Can I make corrections to my open enrollment elections after submitting them?
You are permitted to make changes to your benefits elections directly in MyDay at anytime from October
19, 2020 through November 13, 2020. Following November 13, 2020, you will no longer be able to make additional updates to your benefit elections.
Who should I contact if I have questions about my benefits?
