A Book Talk with Leila Taylor ’18
An author on our 2020 New School Alumni Summer Reading List, Leila Taylor, MA Liberal Studies ’18, discusses her book Darkly: Black History and America’s Gothic Soul. Part memoir and part cultural critique, Taylor’s book explores the dark heart of the American gothic, analyzing the ways it relates to race in the United States in the 21st century, including the persistence of white supremacy and the ubiquity of Black death, which feeds a national culture of terror and gives rise to a perpetual undercurrent of mourning. Find her book here and bring your questions and comments to the conversation. See the full 2020 reading list here.
