    @NewSchoolAlumni Instagram Live: Book Talk with Stephanie Danler ’14
    As part of our 2020 New School Alumni Reading List, Stephanie Danler, MFA Creative Writing ’14, discusses her memoir, Stray, with Elizabeth Lothian, MFA Creative Writing ’19, digital director at Guernica. Danler is the author of the international bestseller Sweetbitter and the creator and executive producer of the Sweetbitter series on Starz. Her work has appeared in the Sewanee Review, Vogue, the New York Times Book Review, and the Paris Review Daily. Her nonfiction received an Honorable Mention in Best American Essays 2018, and her criticism won the 2019 Robert B. Heilman award from the Sewanee Review.

    As part of our 2020 New School Alumni Reading List, Leila Taylor, MA Liberal Studies ’18, discusses her book Darkly: Black History and America’s Gothic Soul. Part memoir and part cultural critique, Taylor’s book explores the dark heart of the American gothic, analyzing the ways it relates to race in America in the 21st century, including the persistence of white supremacy and the ubiquity of Black death that feeds a national culture of terror and a perpetual undercurrent of mourning.
