• Sascia Bailer, Parsons School of Design '17

Care has become a trend in the art industry, but response of curators has been limited to symbolic gestures in the form of exhibitions and other public programming. These efforts have led to few (infra)structural changes. The need to bring about fair working conditions and gender equity and to build support structures for caregivers and recipients is still to be met. Sascia Bailer has responded by redefining curatorial care as an infrastructural practice grounded in feminist ethics that provides “care for presence” for diverse audiences. Drawing on socially engaged curatorial and artistic practices, she offers practical ideas for constructing caring infrastructures and provides a micropolitical roadmap for curating with care.
