Training and Development, a service in the Office of Human Resources, is committed to helping all New School employees succeed by providing resources and support that assist them in meeting their personal and professional goals. We are dedicated to providing relevant, high-quality programs and development opportunities that align with the university's overall strategic goals.
A variety of workshops and services are available to university employees, including new supervisor training and orientation, staff career services, wellness programming, leadership training, and performance management. We also provide customized training interventions and consultancy for department-specific development needs.

We offer a number of workshops addressing leadership and management that are geared to supervisors and managers. New manager training covers areas including effective management techniques, institutional policies and procedures, and attendance and disciplinary issues. Other workshops focus on recruiting and hiring managers, avoiding legal liability, personality types, and leadership styles.
This training covers The New School's performance appraisal process and forms and reviews techniques for writing a fair assessment and providing constructive feedback. We also offer workshops on ways employees can maximize the effectiveness of the performance appraisal process.
Career and Professional Development can provide all union clerical and administrative staff with tips and tools for achieving career goals. The purpose of career planning is to make the most of one's career, education, and life. Generally an ongoing process, career planning involves exploring and understanding one's capabilities and aspirations, learning continuously, and finding work that is the right fit.
We provide information and referrals to assist employees with all kinds of life events and to help them manage unexpected disruptions of work or study. Services offered include The New School's Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which helps employees with personal growth, relationships and family, addictions, workplace issues, referrals, emotional well-being and crises, and legal and financial questions.
The New School Libraries and Archives are pleased to announce that
Lynda.com, which offers online software instruction and professional development tutorials, is now available to students, faculty, and staff. The 40,000+ videos in Lynda.com cover subjects including acoustics, desktop apps, logo design, responsive design, and project management. Lynda.com includes software tutorials for programs such as Adobe CS Suite, AutoCAD, Blackboard, Microsoft Office, and SolidWorks. It also offers more than 350 business courses on topics like time management, starting a small business, project management, coaching and developing employees, and new manager training.
Lynda.com can be accessed through the "Databases" tab on the
library website. Once you have created a user profile on the site, you can also access Lynda.com on mobile and tablet apps, available in Apple's App Store (for iPhones and iPads) and the Google Play Store (for Android devices).
