The Mannes Opera's performance of Il Postino was the New York City premiere of the opera (which was first performed by the Los Angeles Opera in 2010). It was also the first time Mannes collaborated on a fully-staged performance with students from Parsons The New School for Design, who created the costumes, props, and projections.
The keynote Commencement address was given by internationally renowned novelist Zadie Smith, author of White Teeth, The Autograph Man, On Beauty and NW. In a speech entitled "Many Hands," Smith urged graduates to find purpose and pleasure in collectively approaching the global challenges that will define their generation.
For the second year, The New School partnered with Sqore (formerly Student Competitions) to offer a scholarship competition for adult and transfer students wanting to begin or resume undergraduate study. After careful review of the 80 entries, we are happy to announce the 2014 scholarship winners.
