    Hai Zhang

    Profile

    Hai Zhang is an artist based in New York. With a background in photography, architecture, and journalism, he integrates all these disciplines into an investigative process to examine subjects, context, and the media themselves. Zhang has exhibited in museums and galleries in New York, Europe and Asia.  Zhang was a fellow of the Rafael Viñoly Architecture Research Fellowship. He was nominated for the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize in 2014. As a visiting scholar at the India China Institute at The New School, he created a digital archive of his decade-long photographic project in China. His works were included in the permanent collection of the U.S. Library of Congress.  His artist books are in the collections of the Asia Art Archive in America and the Center for Book Arts.  With 2025 Visual Artist Fellowship from Delaware Valley Arts Alliance in New York, Zhang is working on a project of the Catskills.
