My project is designing a retail space in Chelsea Market for a client who wants to open a dispensary. The design is intended to make the shopping process a journey—a one-of-a-kind experience in a unique and fun space. The concept is based on the movie The Fifth Element, and the retail shop is named “6e (element) – The Dispensary in Chelsea Market.” The floor between the basement and first floor is removed to create one continuous space. Thirty-six supporting columns are highlighted with lighting, making them an integrated part of the visual design. The interior space consists of six glass cubes—each lighted in a different color—which display the products. Product information is provided through QR codes, giving the space a clean, modern, uncluttered feel. The vivid colors and rectilinear shapes in the space are intended to reflect the creative, artistic vibe of Chelsea Market. Shoppers enter from the east through a hallway—a transitional area with a gate at the center with windows made of glass cubes that resemble six e's on both sides. The gate leads to a bridge that connects the lower floors and the east side of the shop, where the checkout and exit are located. Purchased items will be delivered to the buyer at the checkout.
