    Visibike
Visibike is a cyclist safety system for Citi Bike that aims to improve micro safety on urban streets. The devices are designed to be easily retrofitted to the existing bike infrastructure to warn cyclists of both oncoming hazards and objects approaching within their blind spots. This project came to fruition after COVID-19 hit New York City in early 2020, causing a major shift in mobility across the city. As the MTA saw a drastic decrease in ridership levels across all modes of mass transportation, Citi Bike, a bike share program in New York City, saw an increase in ridership levels as modes of transport with fewer points of contact became more desired. With an increased demand for outdoor transportation during the pandemic, safety becomes a huge topic of conversation. In 2020, cyclist injuries in New York City increased by 43 percent and are up by a further 13 percent in 2021. With more people riding Citi Bike comes a greater need for cyclist safety and visibility on busy urban streets.
