    PARTNER: Metropolitan Museum of Art

GOAL: Find new and creative ways to present The Met’s vast collections in a digital format

APPROACH: Students sorted and interpreted data pulled from The Met’s Open Access Collection, depicting it in beautifully designed data visualizations

    FORMAT: Sponsored course

OUTCOME: Under direction of faculty Richard The, Alec Barrett, and Zach Krall, students developed well-thought-out data visualizations to illuminate themes within The Met’s digital archives. The data viz projects highlighted topics ranging from the role of women in the arts to the prevalence of apples appearing in artworks. The diverse array uncovered a range of new insights about the museum’s many artifacts. At the end of the semester, each project was presented to The Met’s Digital Department, and the collaboration has continued to grow with a new cohort of students taking part each year.
