  • Split + layer

    Advising
This project is a Korean molecular gastronomy restaurant, inspired by one specific food — rice shumai. The layering and modularity of rice shumai are extremely interesting. I explored the dish by drawing and creating concept models and researching existing molecular gastronomy restaurants for inspiration. I chose to interpret each course as a single loop. All design programs are surrounded and followed by one wall, which splits and leads to a new program. This combination of concepts, "Layer and Split," permeates the design. I used a perforated wall in traditional Korean cross patterns, with varying aperture sizes, to control the transparency, and thereby the privacy, of each room.
