  • The Passage Lounge at JFK

    Advising

The Passage Lounge is an oasis in the airport concourse and a space of intimacy. In this project, an innovative interior is constructed to communicate a new typology of the design of waiting and the future of travel. The Passage at JFK is a network of airport lounges around the world. The flow and movement between spaces take inspiration from the curvature of a bean; the sweep at the foot of a curtain is used to hide each program from the next. The spaces between “beans” act as a gallery walk, guiding the user to the concealed entrance of the next bean.

The first bean is a tearoom for travelers, with dim natural light and green moss walls. Tea steeps throughout the day and night, producing steam and creating an intimate environment. The second bean is for the business traveler. It features a communal working desk, bright natural light, and a library. The final bean is open, with lounge chairs in which travelers can watch planes depart or merely rest before their journey.
