  • The Memory of My Grandmother

    Advising
My thesis collection is about the memory of my grandmother when she was suffering from dementia. Many people think that dementia is a dark and depressing topic on which to base a collection; however, I spent one of the happiest moments of my life during this time. Therefore, I wanted to portray these happy and meaningful memories through my thesis collection.Since both of my parents worked, I got to spend most of my free time taking care of my grandmother. We did many things together. Among the many activities we shared, there was one that inspired my collection: dressing her. Whenever we went out, we had to pay close attention to her clothes because she couldn’t really tell if she felt cold or not due to her unstable mental state. She always felt cold—especially in the winter, and sometimes even in the summer. So, I dressed her in many layers—first, in her own clothes, and then, in my sweatshirts or sweaters, which convinced her that she was adequately dressed to go out. This activity of dressing my grandmother in many layers is the key inspiration for my collection.
