Houyou Cochlear Implant Accessories That Hold You
Cochlear implants (CIs) have improved the hearing of many individuals, but during physical activity, they often disconnect from the skull. To address this issue, I designed CI accessories that use the ear's natural architecture to keep the device attached during exercise. Three user groups were targeted: children aged 7 to 11, adult athletes aged 18 to 35, and adults aged 65 and above. I conducted a study and interviewed 12 adults to determine design parameters. Through extensive research on skin-safe adhesives and consultation with material manufacturers, I arrived at a definition of future material parameters. The final designs drew inspiration from nature, jewelry, and sportswear.
