  • An Eight Look "Fashion" Collection

    Advising
Inspired by photographs from the Meiji period, my collection explores objects and fabrics from previous eras that we have preserved and still find attractive in the 21st century. The Reverse Fade embraces the idea of painting over fabrics in order to preserve them. It also questions the repurposing of historical techniques by collaging design details and moments from clothing found in Parsons’ archives. My collection is based on the idea of different worlds coming together and being subverted to create a more surreal and contemporary reality. This is demonstrated through awkward proportions, unraveling of garments, stiffening of fabrics, and lowering of neck and waistlines. Embroidery has been used as a functional unifying mechanism holding these moments together. mayakano.com
