Kyle Meyer

Simulated Textiles

My sculptural work is composed of dyed, woven luster photo paper. These weavings are created by hanging the paper onto a wall and covering them with wet fabric. Then printer ink is squeezed onto the fabric and left to dry. When the fabric is removed, its ink imprint remains. After this dyeing/printing process, large sheets of paper are woven together. The piece does not use distinguishable mathematical patterns, allowing me to choose which pieces of paper should be revealed. Installed, the weavings appear to be textiles and fabrics suspended in time, covering or concealing something. The light sheen from the dyed luster photo paper reflects to accentuate the folds, creating even more shapes within the work.
